报告内容:

Due to complexities of face-hobbing of bevel gears, such as the intricate geometry of the cutting system, multi-axis machine tool kinematic chains and the variant cutting velocity along the cutting edge, deriving the instantaneous un-deformed chip geometry and predicting cutting forces, as the most important characteristics of material removal, are challenging. In the present seminar, all these complexities have been taken into consideration to obtain the un-deformed chip geometry and predict cutting forces. The in-process model of the workpiece is derived using workpiece discretization into disks and intersecting the blades with them. In addition, in this seminar, a new method to design cutting blades is proposed by changing the geometry of blade surfaces to achieve constant rake and relief angles while the cutting edge is kept unchanged. By applying the proposed method to design the blades, the tool wear characteristics are improved especially at the corner. A method is proposed to optimize machining settings in face-hobbing of bevel gears based on tool wear constraints. Future research works will be discussed during the seminar.

报告人简介:

Dr. Mohsen Habibi is a research associate at the Optical-Bio Microsystems Laboratory at the Concordia University, Montreal, Canada. He received his Ph.D. degree from Concordia University in 2016 and his M.Sc. degree from Amirkabir University (Tehran Polytechnic) in 2011. His main field of study is Intelligent Manufacturing, Computer Aided Design/Manufacturing (CAD/CAM) and Additive Manufacturing (AM). He has been accomplished many research projects with leading industries in Canada and USA such as Bombardier, Pratt & Whitney, Cimetrix Solutions and Gleason Co.He has over 10 publications in the most prestigious journals in the design and manufacturing field such as ASME Mechanical Design, ASME Manufacturing Science and Engineering, Computer-Aided Design and International Journal of Machine tools and Manufacture. He collaborated with Research and Development department of Gleason Co. in USA over four years to improve the gear manufacturing machine tools and cutting systems specially face-hobbing of bevel gears. He recently filed two US patents in additive manufacturing (AM) and introduces a new class of AM processes to improve mechanical properties of the produced parts. He started a start-up company based on those patents with the support of Concordia University.
